Let’s be honest: Barry Manilow is not for the faint of heart. Even the most stoic of us is not immune to the blase croonings of the man “Who Writes the Songs”. If the moon and stars are lined up just right, you’ll be crying just like those “young girls” he sings about. Today, Michael and I pulled into a local restaurant for lunch. As I was looking for a parking space, Manilow came on the radio singing “I Can’t Smile Without You“. Damn you Manilow and your poignant and perfectly timed songs! Michael made it for about five seconds before he fell victim to the Manilow Melodrama and started crying. “Karen,” he said tearfully, “I can’t smile without you!” Someone needs to contact the FCC and get Manilow banned from the air waves. Immediately.
